Sorry for the hiatus; I was busy finding a job and was not in the mood of writing my blog. Back to my review of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
By this time, the constructor and driver’s championships are tight between two of the fiercest rival in the current era of F1. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton is trying to close the gap to future world champion – Redbull’s Max Verstappen. Verstappen is on form right now, having five wins so far. Perhaps the most discussed incident was Verstappen’s 51G crash at Silverstone, thanks to Hamiton. Some said it was Hamilton’s fault; some said Verstappen should give more space. I think it was a racing incident (the blame should be slightly more on Hamilton). It was bound to happen between these two sooner or later.
One common trait among all F1 fans – we do not believe the weather forecast. When the forecast predicted rain, we do not believe it. Not this time; it rained. A wet Grand Prix is always a good show for us.
Light’s out and away we go! AND Bottas messed up. He misjudged the braking zone and crashed into McClaren’s Norris, and Norris crashed into Verstappen and Perez. What a strike from the Finnish himself. Stroll also missed the braking zone and crashed into Ferrari’s Leclerc. It was chaotic but great for neutral like me.
Red flag and before the race restarted, all cars had the option to pit for dry tyres as the weather cleared up. However, for some reason, Hamilton was the only one who did not pit and restarted the race with slick tyres. Horrible outcome for the seven times world champion. Nevertheless, he held his chin up and managed to climb back to the podium.
The highlight for me would be the battle between two legends of the sport – Alonso vs Hamilton. The battle lasted around ten laps, and it was so good to both veterans fighting out. Alonso’s defence was highly vital for Esteban Ocon’s maiden victory. I was so pleased for Esteban; he needed this victory to prove his doubters.
And now the summer break, I can not wait to watch the next F1 race, which will be in Spa, Belgium. It will be a good one to watch.
