It is already December 2020 … and we are all still trying to process what the hell happened in March 2020. This year is horrendous, and many people are looking back to the good old days. During this time in 2017, I was in Iceland with my friends, and let me tell you – it was one of the best December I had in my life. Iceland is genuinely incredible (世外桃源!)

As I was the only one who can drive in that group, I did most of the planning based on my ability and the conditions in Iceland, but it did not mean the others did not contribute significantly! We were just cautious. Furthermore, we were driving on the opposite side of the lane, which was very weird at that time.

We went to the golden circle on the first day. The golden circle consists of Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir park. The Gullfoss waterfall was very majestic, and it left me an impression. This winter trip could be quite remarkable. (Spoilers: and it was!) Later that day, we went to the Blue Lagoon to chill and relax before the long drive on day two.

On the second day, we packed up and headed to Vik as our destination. There is a saying “It is not the destination, it is the journey” and it could not be any more accurate here. The scenery in Iceland is so breathtaking that even the driving itself was quite enjoyable. We stopped by Skogafoss waterfall, Solheimasandur Plane Wreck and Reynishverfi’s Black Sand Beach. On that night, we went aurora hunting … and we did manage to see the northern light … for 7 seconds… Oh well, better luck next time. The sky was crystal clear, and I could quickly identify multiple constellations.

The third day was quite an exhausting day. We had to drive from Vik to the East side of the country, which is well known for its glacier. We would never forget Jokulsarlon’s glacier lagoon for a distinctly weird reason. The wind was extreme on that day, and some of my friends were finding cover. A precious tip for you – never finds shelter behind a signboard…

Day 5 was for us to drive back from Vik to Reykjavik to chill. We went into town to explore new places. The Hallgrimskirkja Church provided us with a great view of the capital city of Iceland. The Harpa Concert Hall is pretty unique looking and yes … we went to the Icelandic Phallological Museum, or in ordinary words … penis museum.

Iceland is a fantastic place, and I would love to return here soon. Perhaps visit Iceland during the summer period? Or come back during the winter to hunt for more Northern lights? We will see. Here is a video of my Iceland trip! Thanks for reading and watching!
