There are no prizes if you guess it right. We headed to Arakuraya Sengen Park to view Mount Fuji the next day. I was excited about this destination. However, 天公不作美, it was cloudy the whole day. It was such a disappointment. On the “bright” side, Fujiyoshida City is a lovely city for a drive-by.
Thankfully, the car park is in the park, so reaching the observation deck was a short walk. However, the stairs were so bloody steep, and it took us quite a while to reach the top. So many tourists! But to be honest, it could have been worse. Since Japan opened its border not too long ago, only a handful of foreign tourists have come here. Most of the tourists here were local.
When we reached the observation deck, it was still cloudy. There was no Mount Fuji in sight. Oh well, I saw Mount Fuji in clear weather a few days ago. You win some, you lose some. I was satisfied to be in Fujiyoshida City since this was my first time there.
For lunch, we drove to Houtou Fudou, which is highly famous among Japanese tourists. Hontou is a flat noodle cooked with hot soup and served in a huge pot. While the noodles were delicious, my main star is the basashi, a.k.a horse sashimi. Yes, people here do eat raw horses. I love the taste and texture of basashi, and I will hunt for more the next time I come to Japan.
After buying some souvenirs, we returned to Tokyo. That’s the end of our road trip. I missed our road trip when I started writing about it. Although I did not enjoy my stay in Japan, there were some great times, and the road trip was part of it. If I were to do this road trip again, I would not change much of the plan.
Well, I would change one thing, and I wouldn’t say what it is. 🙂
