For a truly unique experience, I visited the Seaventure Dive Rig, a decommissioned oil rig transformed into a dive resort. I hoped to witness a barracuda storm this time, a sight I had missed on my previous visit. The rig, essentially a stationary liveaboard, promised an adventure unlike any other, and of course, I can’t ever get tired of Sipadan.

Upon arrival at the oil rig, a unique lift transports you to the platform, where a mini welcome ceremony awaits. This personal touch sets the tone for your stay. After some paperwork, you’re ready for your first dive beneath the rig.

The main foyer of Seaventure Dive Rig is a hub of activity divided into two sections. The dry section is a space for dining, relaxation, and socializing. The wet section houses all the scuba gear, ensuring easy access for divers. Additional facilities include a game room, a classroom for dive briefings, and a gym for fitness enthusiasts. And, of course, the sundeck offers a stunning ocean view.

The standard room is functional: a bed (or two beds), water, a hot shower, and air-con. I am okay with it since I spent most of my time diving under the rig or chilling in the dry zone. I would go up to the sundeck at dusk and enjoy the view.

One of the best parts of Seaventure is the food. The food is much tastier than at the Sipadan-Kapalai resort. I would have a second helping for every single meal. There are options for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the Seaventure Dive Rig is the UNLIMITED REEF DIVE! You read that right; you can dive beneath the rig as often as you wish. This unique offering was one of the main draws for me. It provided the perfect opportunity for a refresher dive and to test my equipment before venturing to Sipadan. The only requirement is to dive with a buddy, which is usually not a problem. However, as a solo traveller, I had to make friends on the spot to join me. Alternatively, you can opt for a divemaster to accompany you, with each dive costing approximately RM50. I recommend having a divemaster to guide you for the night dive, as it is a completely different world.

Nothing is perfect, which sadly applies to this exceptional resort. This place is catered to hardcore divers only. If you are a non-diver, there is almost nothing to do here. The motto of this place is “Eat, sleep, dive, repeat”.

Would I return to Seaventure Dive Rig? Yes, absolutely. As a hardcore diver, this place is ideal for me as I just want to dive, and dive, and dive. It is also a good place for me to make friends; I still kept contact with some of the divers!

Here’s a video of my time at Seaventure Dive Rig. It is also arguably the best video on my YouTube channel. Enjoy!
