After my graduation in the summer of 2019 (seems ages ago), I had decided to bring my family to Switzerland for an extraordinary family trip. None of us has ever been there before, so everything will be new for us. As usual, I had done in-depth research on that country, and it seems that Switzerland is the best place because it is one of the safest places in Europe.
A day after my graduation, we immediately headed back to London to depart for Zurich. We lived in an apartment for two nights. Zurich is a beautiful place, a good mixture of old and modern vibes. My brother and I were looking at those Swiss watches displays on the streets. We got the Swiss Travel Pass, which made travelling effortless.
The second day, we went to Lucerne for our first mountain excursion, Mount Pilatus. The scenery exceeded our expectations, and we would be looking forward to more amazing views in Switzerland. After Mount Pilatus, we went to check out the Lion Monument, and it was significantly larger than I thought.
We stopped at Bern for lunch and to explore the city, before heading for Interlaken. The public bear exhibition is perhaps the main attraction for tourist in the capital city of Switzerland. There was not much in Interlaken, as it is our central point to perform most of the mountain excursions in the next few days. Similar to Iceland, the scenery of Switzerland is so gorgeous that the journey itself is quite enjoyable. We were going to explore three different mountains in the next three days – Matterhorn, Jungfrau and Schilthorn.
The next day, we woke up early and travelled to Zermatt for Matterhorn mountain, the tallest alps in Europe. It was roughly a 2-hour train ride from Interlaken. We sat a cable car to the top of the mountain, and we can felt the decreasing oxygen on the way up. The view, as always is fantastic and we could not get enough of it. While walking back to the train station, a large group of mountain goats/sheep walked past us, so cute! Too bad they left a trail of poop behind…
On the second day in Interlaken, we went to Jungfrau, perhaps the most well-known mountain excursion compared to others. Transportation to the top is probably the unique one as we were using trams to travel to the top, before switching to another tram to go into Jungfrau. Jungfrau was the most crowded place, and everyone was trying to have fun in the snow. Unfortunately, I saw a few tourists smoking in the distance… oh common. There is one attraction in the mountain where you could visit ice sculpture. Now I knew what happened to the Scrat and his nut!
The third day in Interlaken, we headed off to Schilthorn, which is famous for 007. There is not much to do here except for some adventurous walk around the mountain. There is a rotating restaurant where you can have your 007 meal.
After finishing our mountain excursions, we went back to Zurich to shop for some souvenir. And of course, we had to visit the famous Victorinox
shop for some swiss army knives. Surprisingly, a Chinese staff member had attended us, and it was a good time for me to brush up my Mandarin. (Thank god everything went okay haha). She told us that she studied here in Switzerland and was working there as a part-time staff. She knew how to speak German, English and Mandarin – impressive!
Well, that was the end of my journey to Switzerland. I hoped I could come back here again. Like Iceland, I was trying to absorb the view every day. Mark my word, I will come back here! Perhaps to the west side like Geneva.
Here’s the Switzerland video, enjoy!
