While living in Japan, I had the opportunity to visit Okinawa. You can notice that the atmosphere of Okinawa is significantly slower and much more relaxed compared to mainland Japan. Hence, people here are happier and live longer. Well, I was in Okinawa to go scuba diving, duh. Of course, I made a video about it.
One of the most memorable sites I visited was the USS Emmons. Initially, it was a destroyer in the Atlantic Ocean, and later in its life, it was converted into a mine sweeper before participating in the Battle of Okinwana in 1945. Multiple kamikazes hit it, and ultimately, she sank to the bottom of the ocean.
I was very excited about this particular dive site because this was my first WW2 wreck dive. I have always been a mini history buff, so seeing a glimpse of the war in the wild was surreal. It was also my first ever decompression dive and my deepest dive until now, around 50 meters deep.
According to my divemaster Richard, the wreck’s ammunition, especially the depth charge, is still active. Nevertheless, it was unreal to be able to dive so close to a WW2 wreck. Richard also praised me for my behaviour and diving techniques since he mentioned that there were some grave robberies at that dive site.
Alright, that is it for now. This post is fairly short, and the quality may be subpar. But thanks for reading my post. It was a long journey for me to reach this point. Next time, I will describe the events that happened in Japan.
